I have heard it said
That a person understands,
With markers, and orange proof,
Singing a singed litany,
a bright cloud over blue.

I wont say its not true
Because I don’t know,
as the beauty of
Auburn Maple leaves,
a praying squirrel on the shivering branch
In the chill morning.

Flecks of nibbled foliage
Fall slowly to the ground.

The Healing

Tawny cat, gently pacing,
pauses.

What is the difference?
evening sky, blue tag, fence post.
Step through,
become complete.

Tarnished, hand-painted sun,
Smiles.

What is visible?
A swinging bench, brown beer, unclouded screen.
See through,
Be everything.

String of Moments

Above the birdbath, as if flying.
eyes, stippled wings.

Why there?
It all makes sense.

Until the ancient ticking,
the checkerboard turmoil,
a string of plausible moments.

Water pours
through a piano of fingers,
casually, a song away
from bristled thinking,
any shadowy silhouette,
any fervently treasured somewhat.

Dim and cloudy, clutching on,
The flawless lens twerked,
smoke in the eyes, a joke,
Brain claiming, I know, I know. just.

Comprehending, with a child’s wisdom,
how serrated and dark the world remains.

Ever. Still. Stripped.

apples are apples,
And you are nothing.

What could be more clear?

Finite as sand,
Swept away with a longing,
that rains from
the deepest farthest emptiness.

And today,
A bending in supplication?
That flip-fingered bellow?
A foam heart or a leaf?

Dearest misbegotten,
Only
your sobbing back-step return,
the golden grit’s
Homecoming in your unclenched hand.

The desert tells a story,
Of aching distance and the mystery of a limitless horizon.
simply a fingerprint, an ink smudge,
the shadow of a crow soaring crossways,
As wide as your arms can stretch,
Gathering, gathering
More than you can embrace,
the time
when you belonged.

Breaking the sandy beach;
do you step back in terror
at the waterfall of revelations?

I’ve seen you,
Breathing words in and out, like mist
Whirling madly in the ocean;
You spin most fluently now,
Weeping beautifully, as a child.

ragged chippings,
the questions of a half-broken man.
Where is strength and where is beauty?
How is fortitude engendered?

The pulsing sweep of paint?
spread and flow,
Its pigmented significance?
The arcing drift of pigskin?
The spin and flight,
Its whistling revelation?

Void of answers,
The granite cairn attends, buddha-like.
Growing grasses,
Generations,
Sunlight,
Expletives of love and perfection.
